Geotextile sheet, or geotextile fabric, is a permeable material made of synthetic fibers. It’s produced by needle punching or weaving and is one of the new geosynthetic materials. The finished product resembles cloth, typically 4-6 meters wide and 50-100 meters long. There are two types: woven and non-woven filament geotextiles. Geotextile sheets offer excellent filtration, drainage, isolation, reinforcement, anti-seepage, and protection. They are lightweight, have high tensile strength, good permeability, and resist high temperatures, freezing, aging, and corrosion.
Polyester Geotextile Sheet for Road Projects in Kenya
Our Kenya customer has a road project starting at A104 and A109 junction, ending at Machakos branch road, spanning 20.151 km. This key route connects Nairobi and Mombasa Port, the largest in East Africa, with asphalt pavement. Upon completion, it will ease traffic congestion, significantly improving Kenya’s road network and promoting high-quality economic growth along the route.
Key to Preventing Pavement Cracks in Road Projects
Geotextile sheet is typically placed under and on top of asphalt pavement in road projects to prevent cracks. When positioned between road layers, it relies on its strength to enhance the road’s overall integrity, limiting cracks. Its key function is to restrict the emergence and expansion of cracks. Specifically, when the lower layer cracks, the geotextile disperses stress and prevents the crack from reaching the surface.
The Strength and Durability of PET Geotextile Fabric in Road Projects
PET geotextile fabric is strong enough to handle road project stresses, preventing minor issues from becoming major ones. Its durability ensures resistance to punctures from base objects, thanks to low elongation. This limits the impact of underlying cracks on the road surface, controlling their spread. Furthermore, its integration with the asphalt layer forms a waterproof barrier, stopping rainwater from seeping through cracks and accelerating their growth.
Successful Collaboration with Kenyan Client on PET Nonwoven Geotextile Sheet
A Kenyan client contacted us via our website, starting a collaboration based on their needs and sample characteristics. After lab tests, we confirmed it was a PET Nonwoven geotextile with 14 kN/m tensile strength and 200 g/m² weight. We promptly shared the detailed test report and video with the client, who was very satisfied. They then placed an order for the first batch: 2*40HQ containers, totaling 100,000 square meters. Upon receiving the goods, the client highly praised us, noting the test results exceeded their expectations. Our installation engineer also provided a video guide to help with the construction process.
The Versatile Functions and High-Temperature Resistance of Polyester Geotextile Road Fabric
Polyester geotextile road fabric serves multiple essential functions, including water permeability, isolation, filtration, drainage, and reinforcement. It is adept at adapting to uneven bases and resisting destruction from external construction forces, even under long-term loads. Furthermore, the fabric exhibits remarkable resistance to ultraviolet rays and can withstand high temperatures up to 230℃, ensuring the preservation of its structural integrity and original physical properties.
Geotextile Sheet Application
Protective Engineering Applications of Polyester Geotextile Road Fabric
Polyester geotextile road fabric plays a crucial role in protective engineering, effectively spreading concentrated stress from one object to another. This stress distribution helps prevent soil damage, with the external force acting as a protective barrier. The fabric’s applications extend to river regulation, revetment, bottom protection projects, and coastal moisture proofing. It is also used in road slope protection engineering, showcasing its versatility in various protective construction scenarios.
Road Construction Benefits of Geotextile Fabric
In road construction, geotextile fabric significantly enhances the smoothness of the road surface and acts as a vital component in preventing reflective cracks and serving as a waterproof layer. When placed beneath the base and surface layers, it effectively stops base cracks from reaching the surface, ensuring a waterproof barrier. To address reflective cracks specifically, a specialized highway geotextile is employed between the asphalt overlay and the old cement concrete pavement. By utilizing reinforced synchronous gravel layers and sealing geotextile road fabric, cracks are covered and leakage is prevented. The fabric’s use in the roadbed and integration with original pavement materials reduce cracks in the gravel packing layer, enhancing pavement structure stability and separation. This approach ultimately prolongs the pavement’s service life.
Characteristics of Geottextile Sheet
High strength. Due to the use of synthetic fiber, in the dry and wet state can maintain sufficient strength and elongation. Corrosion resistances. The geotextile sheet can be long-term corrosion resistance to different PH soil and water.
Good permeability in the fiber gap, so there is a fair permeability. Mild anti-microbial property is not damaged to microorganisms and moth.
Joint method of polyester filament geotextile. The geotextile sheet can be commonly used lap, suture and welding method, polyester filament geotextile suture and welding width is generally more than 10 cm, and lap width is generally more than 20 cm. Filament geotextiles fabric must overlap not less than 15 cm before overlapping. Stitches should be at least 25mm away from the selvage. Any “missing stitches” in the stitched geotextile shall be re-sewn in the affected area.
